Sick of lugging your laptop around?

Sick of lugging your laptop around with you?

For many business owners, staying connected to your email, social media and important documents ultimately means lugging the laptop around with you.

They may have gotten smaller and lighter over the years, but they’re still a pain in the ass to carry about. Especially if you’re going on holiday!

We have all been there haven’t we? Standing at security. Trying to take your belt and shoes off. Unload your 100ml of shampoo from the holdall, while being asked to take the laptop out of the bag, the charger…. extra bonus points if you also have a couple of kids in tow that you’re trying to deal with at the same time!

There has got to be an easier way?

Well there is! Not only is a refurbished iPad much cheaper than a laptop but is capable of running the vast majority of business tasks just an easily – and in many cases, far faster than the laptop!

What business functions can you easily undertake on an iPad?

  1. Manage your Social Media – respond to comments, schedule posts and carry on as though you had never left the office
  2. Respond to emails
  3. Open up Powerpoint presentations and view them (from email)
  4. Skype call your clients or colleagues
  5. With Adobe Suite applications available on iPad you can continue to edit photos or undertake design work easily while on the move
  6. Banking and invoicing. With many businesses now using Cloud based systems such as Quickbooks or Xero, it is simply a matter of downloading the free App and carrying on as normal. Check your bank balance and see if your clients have paid. Send reminders or reconcile your transactions.
  7. Type up letters, ideas, notes or written copy by connecting a keyboard to your iPad! Typing lengthy documents isn’t ideal with the iPad keyboard, but connect a regular lightweight keyboard using the USB port and you can type away as normal! There are even some iPad cases on the market with a built-in keyboard.

Are there any business functions that you can’t do from your iPad?

We are really struggling to think of any! Using Excel, Word and Powerpoint to create documents is a limitation (viewing these documents is fine but editing them or working in them is an issue) but there are lots of workarounds for this, certainly for fairly short trips away.

For the vast majority of people, an iPad would be more than sufficient for a seamless continuation of productivity while travelling. Why not give it a try yourself?

Do kids spend too long on Social Media?

POSTED ON 04.10.2018 site admin

Are your kids spending too long on Social Media?

Yesterday it was announced that the Government has ordered medical professionals to draw up recommended guidelines for how long children and young people should spend on social media, in a bid to counter growing concerns about the impact of using such services on mental health.

Toddlers are now a dab hand with Youtube, and I’m sure many of us are guilty of sitting our little ones on their iPads while we hoover up, cook dinner or take a phone call.

But with kids now starting to become dependent on their tech devices to be entertained and increasing reports that young people are suffering from a detachment to the outside world and increasing feelings of loneliness, what should you do as a parent?

Do you let your teenager spend many hours on their device to avoid the inevitable conflict that will come from asking them to put it away? The Telegraph reports that thousands of teenagers are spending more than 8 hours a day online, at the weekend. Does that sound like your child?

At Cheap Apples we believe that iPhones and iPads can open a whole world of knowledge to our children, with literally, knowledge and discovery at their finger tips they have the privilege of an entirely different world to when we grew up. But… we also believe in safe and moderate usage and we want to help parents keep their children safe when using our products.

Top 3 Tips for keeping your kids’ internet use under control

#1 For older (high school) kids, how about introducing a house rile that they can have one hour of screen time for every hour of study and/or helping around the house? Maybe track the hours on a chart and they can ‘bank’ those hours to use at the weekend.

#2 Small children can be distracted easily – unlike bigger kids! If you feel they have spent long enough on their device and you are avoiding having to take it away, how about a quick distraction? Have some grapes cut up ready to appease them, or perhaps a biscuit. Once the new treat has got their attention, hide the device out of sight. Nine times out of ten, they won’t remember!

#3 A great way to show kids you mean business while avoiding direct confrontation, is using a specialist App such as Our Pact which allows parents to disable Apps on a paired device at the touch of a button. Even if the child and the iPad are in another room, town or even another country!

The App also lets you schedule slots in time where the device will and will not work. For example, it may disable at 9pm each night and activate again at 8am, or between 9am and 3pm when they should be focussing at school instead of messaging their mates

What does iOS12 mean for iPhone users?

POSTED ON 17.09.2018 site admin

The new iOS12 update has just landed and the internet is alight with rumours and supposition of what the new update entails with some saying multi-user FaceTime is a new key feature. Others stating it to be a myth.

But what is the truth?

Should you be an eager beaver to move to the new iOS12 update?

Here we illustrate the top 6 key features:

#1 FaceTime for up to 32 people is coming…. But not until ‘later this Autumn’ – so we would hazard a guess maybe October time for this new iPhone feature. (It is going to worth waiting for though, don’t you think?!)

#2 No more waking up in the morning to a zillion notifications of all the things you missed while you were sleeping. The new iOS12 is a calm ‘Good Morning’ and the weather forecast, before unlocking your screen and unloading the chaos….

#3 The Memoji! Create a Me – Emoji (Geddit? Memoji) which is basically an avatar of yourself. This was previously possible using third party apps but now you can create your Memoji straight from your phone!

#4 New Animojis! The addition of the Koala, T-Rex, Tiger and Ghost open up whole new opportunities to bring your texts and messages to life. How did we ever live without a ghost Emoji?? And if you have an iPhone X (or later) your Animoji can wink and stick out its tongue too!

#5 Do not disturb my meeting – this is clever! This feature syncs with your calendar, you can set Do Not Disturb for that meeting and you will not receive any notifications, texts or calls. When the meeting is scheduled in your calendar to finish, or when it detects that you are no longer in the building your meeting was set to take place, it self-deactivates!

#6 Privacy – now this one is pretty ground breaking! In iOS12 Safari prevents Share buttons and comment widgets on web pages from tracking you without your permission! It also prevents advertisers from tracking your device characteristics, so they cannot identify your device or retarget you with ads.

iPad Mini 2 For EPOS

iPad Mini 2 – WHY EVERY RESTAURANT MANAGER NEEDS ONE

As technology becomes a part of everyday life – from switching on the heating before you leave the office using your iPhone, to boiling the kettle while still in bed – a pen and paper is becoming a thing of the past.

For many years waiters and waitresses would scribble down orders and run through to the kitchen to lodge the order with the chef. Sometimes illegible, with bits crossed out, and a splattering of soup across the front it is little wonder that mistakes would often be made!

Thankfully, this problem no longer persists as café and restaurant businesses seek to invest in iPad EPOS systems that reduce errors and cut down labour time, as the order is taken from the table and sent to the kitchen wirelessly.

Granted, there is a small investment in creating these systems – but let’s do the Maths. If one waiter takes 60 seconds to walk to the kitchen and back again and repeats this task 45 times per day on National Minimum Wage of £7.83 – as an employer, you are shelling out £5.87 per day in payroll costs. Five days a week that is £29.37. 52 weeks a year that is £1527!

Multiply that by five staff and suddenly you’re looking at almost 8 grand a year to pay people to pace back and forth!

It’s no wonder business owners are making the investment!

We recommend but have no affiliation with EPOSNOW we have used them ourselves for several years as our own retail EPOS solution and the support is brilliant. Their package for software only to use on our iPad is a free 30-day trial followed by £25 per month with free help and support to get you up and running. This is with unlimited products also!

We regularly sell our Used iPad Mini 2 to restaurants and shops across the UK, these are most commonly used as an EPOS system.

They operate on the latest iOS software, have a great battery life and are extremely light - hence the being 'Mini'. The 7.9” screen is perfectly suited for taking orders.

The features don’t stop there though – staff can clock in and out, take customer loyalty information such as a phone number and email, and allow your staff to see special offers at a glance to help promote up-sells.

If you are a restaurant chain, or require more than five devices – email us now for a special price or checkout online with free delivery

Do Refurbished iPhones Have Warranty

POSTED ON 08.09.2018 site admin

Something we regularly get asked is, do refurbished iphones have warranty? Buying a refurbished device doesn’t mean it’s on its last legs. Below we explain the testing and grading procedure for our Apple iPhones & Apple iPads.

Cheap Apples have invested heavily in to the best iPhone & iPad diagnostic software ‘Blackbelt diagnostic’. This allows us to perform a full health check on every single iPhone & iPad that we sell. What does the testing procedure involved for a refurbished iPhone or iPad?

  • Visual inspection(check for scratches/cracks/chips in the screen)

  • Battery health test - Easily allows us to identify if a battery needs replacing

  • Screen - allows us to check the full touchscreen and check for all colours.

  • Camera - The camera needs to be nice and scratch free - we all love a selfie!

Above are the main points when testing a used iPhone or iPad. By using the ‘Blackbelt’ diagnostic software, we can easily eliminate issues with our refurbished phones.

After diagnostic testing has been passed, we then individually grade each iPhone or iPad based on it’s cosmetic condition. Devices are split into Grade A+, Grade A and Grade B.

WHAT DOES GRADE A+ MEAN?

THESE DEVICES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAVE VERY LITTLE SIGNS OF USE. THEY HAVE NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE SCREEN BUT WILL SHOW VERY LIGHT SIGNS OF USE.

WHAT DOES GRADE A MEAN?

THESE DEVICES ARE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION BUT SHOW LIGHT SIGNS OF USE. YOU CAN TELL THEY'VE BEEN USED BEFORE AND MAY HAVE SOME VERY LIGHT SCRATCHES ON THE SCREEN..

WHAT DOES GRADE B MEAN?

GRADE B DEVICES ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL DEVICES WITH SOME WEAR AND TEAR. THEY MAY HAVE SOME SCRATCHES ON THE BODY AND THE SCREEN BUT WORK PERFECTLY WELL.

Our refurbished apple iPhones have a 12 month warranty and a 14 day money back guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied with your refurbished phone, you can return it free of charge for a full refund.

At Cheap Apples we offer the UK’s best quality refurbished iPhones on the internet!
